PRO TECHNIQUE
STABILISER USE
Many telephoto lenses have built-in Image Stabilisation (IS) or Vibration Reduction (VR) systems. Having IS switched on significantly increases your chances of getting a sharp shot, particularly if you are forced to use a slower shutter speed than is ideal. IS is actually a floating element that’s controlled electronically and adjusts to compensate for unwanted lens movement that could adversely affect image sharpness. Having IS switched on will drain battery power, so switch it off when it’s not needed – for example while you’re shooting from a tripod.
