Create in-camera multiple exposures
Although the precise method and options can vary between cameras, here’s a rough guide…
Shooting mode
Multiple Exposure mode is usually enabled through the camera’s main menu, so you’re free to set your preferred shooting mode. You may find that the ISO that’s used for the first image is automatically set for subsequent ones, though.
Blending mode
You can select the way in which each image is merged together. It’s a bit like setting the blending mode in image editing software such as Affinity Photo, although the camera can also automatically adjust the strength of the exposure for each ‘layer’.
How many images?
The number of shots you’re able to take in a multiple exposure varies between cameras, but it’s typically nine or ten. If you need more, you can always choose your final blended image as the starting image in a second multiple exposure. Live preview As you shoot, you’ll be able to preview the multiple exposure in the camera’s electronic viewfinder or on the Live View screen, with the current live image overlaid over the top so that you can line it up accurately.
