Advice on taking pictures
Harry Benson is one of the world’s most respected portrait photographers – so naturally, we asked him for his best advice for aspiring portrait photographers…
1 Try to shoot something new
“Try to take pictures that haven’t been seen before or a shot you hadn’t seen that way before. I don’t mean a bunch of fancy angles and playing with lenses, but a picture where there’s a slight touch of a crisis to it.”
2 Look for good pictures
“You always get good pictures if you’re looking for good pictures. I could go about with a camera all day long and it wouldn’t enter my head that this was a picture, but when I’m working it becomes a whole different thing because it’s my business.”
3 Push the boundaries
”I always tried to push people as far as I could go. That’s because with celebrities, in a way, you keep their image alive, so they’ve got to do something more than just sit in a chair.”
