The sky’s the limit
Create your own fine-art library and produce a limitless collection, says Roddy Llewellyn
Building a collection of photographs is achieved by being a creature of habit. You can create your own collection of fine-art images. Just think of a topic, like the car parking spaces that documentary photographer Martin Parr shot for a book.
Clouds are different every day, so are a great subject for starting your own collection. With different colours and compositions, the possibilities are endless. Ranging from dark and moody to bright blues, there is some amazing imagery you can capture.
If you want to produce large prints, make sure you are set up to capture the largest-possible file size. Try varying your shots by using different lenses such as telephotos and wide-angles. You can capture otherworldly shots when the sun is behind clouds, illuminating edges of cloud formations, or capture stormy clouds. You could capture individual solitary clouds, or clusters. The choices are boundless, making this a great starting project for dipping your toe into fine-art photography. But be careful not to look directly into the sun, and check weather reports before you venture out.
