Architecture and artistry
Frederic Ducos shares his tips for spotting perfect mono opportunities
Back in 2014, I took up photography after attending an afternoon course. It really seduced me, so I decided to start my job as a professional photographer in art and advertising photography. In order to improve my technique and to create my art portfolio, I initially travelled very often (especially in Europe).
In 2015, I won a photo contest in France organised by SanDisk. From there I submitted my best images to international competitions such as the International Photography Awards, Moscow IPA, Tokyo IPA, Monovisions, Monochrome Awards, Umbra IPA, ND Awards, Fine Art IPA, PX3 Paris…
Architectural art photography is for me the opportunity to sublimate the achievements of talented designers. I photograph with a personal angle – what I like visually, instinctively – whether it is architecture, landscapes, urban scenes, surf…
The important thing for me is that the picture is visually interesting. I am also very much attracted by geometry: I think it structures the image and makes it more readable – of course in architecture but also in more unexpected categories such as landscapes.
I’ve been loyal to the Nikon brand since the beginning; today I work with a full-frame D850 camera. The post-processing is done with Camera Raw for basic settings and Photoshop CC for retouching if necessary.
