Víctor’s monochrome nature tips
Look for the best light
In black and white, the golden and blue hours work a treat, but midday is also viable if you want a hard contrast between light and shadow. Adjust White Balance in the edit to control the image tone.
Scout your location
Before taking a photograph, it is important to do your research. Look for the best viewpoints, the weather forecast, sunrise and sunset times, and the best way to get to your location.
Try different subjects
Although monochrome is a superb medium for making striking landscape images, also try wildlife and macro in mono. Shooting in black and white will always emphasise your subject in a new way.
Be prepared
While you’re in nature, you should be prepared for any weather situation. Also, don’t forget a spare battery and memory card: you never know what can happen. A tripod is also an important piece of kit.
