Digital Camera readers continue to show us how they’ve been getting creative

1 ‘Untitled’ by Zech Browning

Digital Camera says: You have found an interesting spot to shoot from here, Zech, and it was a good idea to use motion blur to introduce dynamism to an otherwise static scene. It might be worth looking into the Fibonacci spiral for some other composition techniques. 2 ‘Valentine’ by Richard Laurent

“In between Digital Camera reader challenges and being locked in, these flowers seemed an ideal subject.”

Digital Camera says: The use of a darker background makes the colours pop. Great detail on the water drops.

3 ‘The Beauty of Spring’ by Craig Blackley

“St Swithin’s Church in Bath during spring. Having ventured out to see if any trees had blossomed, I was presented with this lovely scene. For me, the sunlight peeking through makes the scene magical and dreamy.”

Digital Camera says: We get sent so many strong reader images that it’s taken until the autumn for us to feature Craig’s classic natural framed subject, which he submitted last spring. So we’re delighted to show it now!

4 ‘The view east from Kensington’ by Michael Becket

“I got permission to take some pictures from the top of St Peter’s Church in Kensington Park Road, Notting Hill, during its recent redecoration. It was one heck of a climb! This shot is two frames combined, for the view west and south-west.”

Digital Camera says:

What a great opportunity, Michael. And kudos to you for being prepared to use every moment of it to get creative. Not everyone would think to shoot this style from here. Lovely natural colours in the final edit show off the cityscape incredibly well.

5 ‘Sunrise’ by Debs Lucas-Byrne

“This is the beach near Widdrington, Northumberland, after a 4am start – no meteor shower as I had hoped for, but I caught a stunning sunrise!”

Digital Camera says:

A beautiful sunrise indeed. We wonder if it’s worth editing the post out, as it draws the attention away from the sun.

6 ‘House of Reflection’ by Phil Kendrew

“This is Stokely Castle in Kent. I replaced the sky and converted the image to black and white for a more surreal feel.”

Digital Camera says:

A timeless shot, Phil. That can’t have been an easy sky to replace, with the multiple trees and hedges. Well done for leaving enough room in the reflection to accommodate the roof of the castle.

7 ‘Out of the Light’ by Peter Howes

“This is my first attempt at Sarah Medway’s fine-art wildlife technique in issue 246’s Photo Active. Taken at Ponderosa Zoo, West Yorkshire.”

Digital Camera says:

A fine attempt, Peter. Maybe a few frames later, you would have that all important eye-contact with the subject.

8 ‘Leaf Skeleton’ by Julia Williams

“Part of a 20-image project for my small camera club. I used an acrylic reflection board and a blue slate background, and lit the scene with a flashgun.”

Digital Camera says:

You’ve tied the colours together well here, Julia. We’d love to see how it sits with the other 19 images in the project.

9 ‘Porthole’ by John Gent

“This picture was taken on my wife’s birthday. It was a bit of luck that the vessel was in the right place at the right time!”

Digital Camera says:

Maybe you’ve created the luck by being in the right place at the right time, John, and more importantly, by having your camera on hand and ready to go. A well captured shot, given the challenging lighting circumstances.
