Maximise through-sharpness

-

The derelict windmill acts as a strong focal point in this rural landscape, but to lead the viewer’s eye to it, it’s important that the textures and leading lines in the foreground are bitingly sharp. To ensure this was the case, hyperfocal distancing was used, with the point of focus set manually around one third of the way up the frame. At an aperture of f/16, this allowed the foreground and background detail to be in focus, even though the image in the optical viewfinder was quite blurred.
