Street tips and techniques
Try these three approaches to improve your chances of a great shot
6 Create a sense of motion
Experimenting with techniques is a great idea: it can also get you out of a creative rut. Try shooting moving targets with slower shutter speeds; around 1/4 sec will bring some motion into your shot. You might need to stop down to compensate.
7 Set up your camera to shoot quickly
You might be shooting moments quickly as you try to remain incognito. Embrace using full auto or semi-automatic settings. Sometimes this can result in images not being as crisp as you’d like, but that’s all a part of street photography.
8 Learn to seek out the right light
The key aspect to street photography is contrast: small pockets of light where you can find subjects surrounded by dark areas. Having large areas of pure black and bright white is a style which can take a while to embrace, but it’s worth it.
