THREE TOP TIPS FOR PERFECT POSIES

-

Flowers make for fascinating subjects, and it’s easy to achieve fantastic photographs of them at home. Here are some top tips and tricks you can implement to elevate your floral photos to the top of their game, and take still-life shots fit to hang on the wall.

Add some rigidity with wire

Some thin wire can be useful for wrapping around the flower stems to give them more rigidity and support to keep them in the position that works best for your photos. A plamp is handy for doing this, too!

Depth of field

A wider aperture like f/2.8, or f/1.8, will give you a very shallow depth of field, so only a thin slice of your scene will be sharp, while a narrower aperture such as f/22 delivers a much larger zone of sharp focus.

Swap out the background

Propping up a coloured piece of paper behind flowers is a cheap and effective way of achieving a clean and vibrant background. Have a look at a colour wheel graphic to get a clearer idea of which colours would work well together.
