How to work with colour-gel lights in the studio

-

You’ll want to start by placing your colour-gel lights on opposite sides of your subject: if they both come from the same direction, they will tend to combine together with a slightly murky outcome (just as it sometimes happens when you mix paint.)

Try to keep your colour sources separated.

Once your lights are set up, try not to shoot too bright, as this will carry the risk of blowing out the colours you’re trying to show off. Typically a good starting place would be 1/200 sec at f/8, ISO 200; then adjust your light power accordingly.
