36 READ THE HISTOGRAM

The histogram on your camera is a useful tool for assessing exposure, especially for checking that the highlights haven’t blown – which you’ll know if the right side of the histogram is touching the side. Shadow detail can be recovered, but blown highlights are lost forever.
