Set your exposure before recomposing

To get good snow exposures quickly, set your camera to spot metering and dial in +1 or +2 stops of exposure compensation. (The brighter the snow, the more correction is required.)

When you point the spot meter at an area of bright snow, press your camera’s exposure lock button and recompose your shot, knowing that the exposure won’t change.

Lock up Many cameras have an exposure lock button, but may be able to assign the function to another button.
