Simple, small and affordable Lens mount Canon RF

Following in the footsteps of one of Canon’s best-selling lenses for DSLRs, the RF edition of the 50mm f/1.8 STM has a price/performance ratio that makes it all but irresistible. As a ‘nifty fifty’, it gives an entirely natural perspective on EOS R-series cameras.

Physically, it’s almost identical in dimensions and weight to the Canon RF 16mm, also on test, and has the same 43mm filter thread. Further similarities include a stepping motordriven autofocus system, an aspherical element and Super Spectra Coating.

Performance

The diminutive RF 50mm punches well above its weight, delivering images with impressive quality that combine good wide-open sharpness with pleasant bokeh. It beats the older EF lens in both respects, although it lacks optical stabilisation, which can be an issue with early EOS R-series cameras.
