Extend the range

-

QIs it OK to get a shorter lens and use an extender to get the range I want? Hugh Smyth

AIf you don’t need to use the added focal length too often, then yes, it’s a money- and space-saving option. But extenders come with some drawbacks. Remember it’s magnifying the actual focal length, so quality and autofocus can suffer as a result. But the most obvious problem with an extender is that you lose light, so you might struggle in poor lighting conditions. Personally, I’d recommend getting a lens with the focal range you want – but if that’s a cost too far, an extender is an alternative option.

?? ?? Also known as teleconverters, extenders are an affordable way to get extra focal length.
