Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8
High-end prime for mirrorless goes on sale in the Spring
Filling a gap in the Nikkor line-up for a fast, supertelephoto prime, the Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S will be a key lens for high-end wildlife and sports photographers. It’s therefore likely to be an important lens for Nikon, and looks to be a perfect partner for the much-fêted Z9 pro mirrorless camera.
This lens has a focal length of 400mm, but incorporates a built-in 1.4x teleconverter to take the focal length to 560mm at f/4. This can be extended further with Nikon Z TC-1.4x or TC-2.0x teleconverters. Inside, the lens features ED, Super ED and SR glass elements to counter chromatic aberration, and there’s an integrated filter slot at the rear for drop-in filters. Built-in optical stabilisation offers 5.5 stops of VR, and Nikon says the Z 400mm f/2.8 offers “phenomenally fast” autofocus, subject acquisition and tracking. www.nikon.co.uk; £13,499/$13,997
