“I once gave a talk and said that SEO [search engine optimisati­on] was dead. What I meant by that was that most people think their prime focus must be to optimise their website, their social media and their marketing to appear in the Instagram feed or at the top of the Google rankings. But if you have that mindset, you’re doing it the wrong way. You’ll overoptimi­se, you’ll become a machine and the experience for your clients will be negative. Remember the ‘social’ in social media: when you post on social media and upload content to your website, 100 per cent of it must be aimed at potential clients – not even your past clients, but your potential clients. When I post something, I’ll talk about it, I’ll interact with the comments and I never include more than four hashtags.
