“The key thing is to always look for the light – a dappled reflective light is always pleasing. Meter for the highlights using the camera’s built-in metering system; spot metering works well if you’re using either fully automatic or semi-auto modes, or you can just use the metering system. It’ll give you an exposure reading and you can dial that in manually, pre-focus on the area and just wait for something interesting to come into that area. The key thing is to meter for the highlight area and wait for someone to enter from the shadows and into the highlights, then you should get what you want.”
