Use your eye-Phone
Aishling Barrett spends some time with her pocket camera around the harbour
Personally, I’ve always been someone who enjoys walking and snapping a quick photo or two to remember it by, but the pandemic and a long period of furlough really brought focus to what had always been more of an intermittent pastime than a hobby.
As the habit of daily walks formed in 2020, I found a new joy in taking photos with the only camera I had – my iPhone. Photography makes me look at my local area in a different way, and I have found a particular love for the constantly changing water and light of Bristol harbour and the variety of shots this offers. My phone gives me freedom from kit and settings, allowing me to capture moments as I see them and continue to enjoy the walk while I do.
Being able to shoot, edit and post images on one device is so valuable to me. In a time when it has been easy to feel disconnected, finding a place in the talented and supportive photography community of the Bristol area has been amazing, and as the world opens up once more, it’s a pastime I fully intend to keep.
At this stage in life I think we’re all enjoying taking photographs on our phones. Whether it’s a quick snap at a party or a particularly beautiful sunset, I’d encourage people to look into the fundamentals of photography, as the simplest changes can lead to huge improvements in your final images.
