Produce a ‘colour pop’ image in three steps

1 Convert to greyscale

Open your colour photo, convert it to greyscale and save the image with a different filename. Now go to your original colour image and select the balloon, using either the magic wand or pen tool. Save this as a work path.

2 Make a selection and paste

Go to the work path and make your selection. Copy it (Edit > Copy), go back to your greyscale image and select Paste in Place (under Edit > Paste Special). This will paste the colour balloon over your greyscale one – now you have a colourful cutout over a greyscale background. Try this out on one of your own images.
