PRO ADVICE USE MANUAL FOCUS WITH LIVE VIEW

-

Getting your focus point spot on is critical with macro shots. Under the magnification of a macro lens, it’s hard to achieve using autofocus, so you’ll get more successful results by taking full control of the process.

In Live View mode, where you use the screen to frame up and focus, you can zoom in on the image by up to 10x. This allows you to be ultra-critical when focusing, and you can make sure that your focus is exactly where you want it. If you find your depth of field is too shallow when your shot is sharp, use a smaller aperture (a higher f/number) to deepen the zone of sharp focus and make the background appear sharper. To do the opposite, use a large aperture (a low f/number). For refraction shots, somewhere between the two extremes will usually give the best results.
