Use everyday subjects to capture delicate images with a real sense of style

With a macro lens, or a set of extension tubes that allow a regular lens to focus closer than normal, you can create artistic shots on a small scale. To do this, you only need a water drop as a focal point, and with a shallow depth of field and a careful focusing technique, you can create subtle and delicate fine-art images using subjects like feathers or dandelion puffballs.

It pays to think about your colour palette when framing up these kind of shots, and an easy way to do this in-camera is by trying different White Balance presets. Shoot in daylight using an ‘Indoor’ White Balance setting, and you’ll apply a cool blue wash over the entire scene.
