Magdalena’s tips and advice for children’s portraits

In my studio, I use a 100cm Elinchrom Rotalux Octabox. It’s the perfect piece of equipment for helping me achieve the feel of a soft, smooth lighting effect. Inside, a silver or gold reflector works like a beauty dish. The light spreads beautifully on the walls of the Octabox, going through two soft diffusers and being softened, which is perfect for child fine-art portraits. Sometimes it’s worth adding a little bit of additional light to create a better 3D effect or separation from the background. This can be on the rim, or even by having a little accent light on the back or on one side of the subject.
