Card saving
Q Is it okay to switch from raw to JPEG to save space on my SD capture card? Lorna Munroe
AThis is one of those ‘old school’ ideas that shouldn’t really be necessary now. When memory cards were really expensive in the early days of digital photography, it was something that might get you out of a hole. It will save you space, because a JPEG is a compressed file and a raw isn’t. But if it’s something you find yourself having to do a lot, then get a bigger memory card or at least a couple of spares – a good-brand 64GB SD card costs around £25 to £35. I’d rather have the flexibility of processing that raw files provide, and make sure I have enough cards to capture all the files.
