Set up a shoot with everyday colours
1 Scout for ideal locations
You don’t have to travel far to find the potential in your local area. Whether you are in an urban or rural location, there will be coloured backdrops everywhere. Once you start looking, note them down.
2 Style your shoot carefully
Depending on the colour you are shooting against, you will need to find outfits that either blend in, complement or contrast. Think about the mood, and you can also add props for extra narrative.
3 Think while you shoot
Think about your image being standalone as well as part of a photo series. When shooting, think about the light, the position of the camera and where your subjects are positioned in the frame.
4 Keep to the plan
Stick to the vision you had for your project. This one was about garage doors and while I spotted lots of colourful wooden front doors along the way, these would have led to an inconsistent style.
