Strap happy

QMy camera came with a neck strap, but I see a lot of people using sling-type straps, so are they better and how do they attach? Ludo Hart

ANormal straps are safe and simple to use. Plus, they’re free! But I prefer the sling-style attachments because they’re more comfortable to wear as the weight isn’t hanging off your neck. They allow easy movement of the camera and are particularly good if you’re walking a lot with your camera and want to have it ready to go at a moment’s notice. They are attached either by the screw-thread beneath the camera body or via an adaptor that attaches to the usual built-in metal loops on the side of the camera. Those with a tripod screw-thread attachment should be checked regularly as they can work loose eventually. There are various makes on the market, but I have both BlackRapid and Sun-Sniper straps that I use regularly.
