Four ways to make money from workshops 1 Find your niche

Understanding your niche will help you to run successful workshops that others will want to book onto. A workshop should focus on offering a varied set of skills and techniques, highly tailored to the liking of your audience. It is important to gather a database of potential clients, as you can then laser-focus the intent of your workshops to match the skills they require and need.

2 Decide on a good location

The physical space in which you will run the workshop is highly important and often contributes to its success. Decide on the atmosphere you want to provide for others and what type of experience you want them to walk away with. Appealing to your clients by offering them the chance to shoot in a professional environment and work with professional models will make for a more personalised and intimate workshop experience.

3 Share your knowledge

Leading a workshop requires a skilled and creative professional who understands the value in sharing their expertise with others and offering feedback. You do not need to be trained as an instructor to hold workshops; however, you must have a recognisable amount of experience and technique to confidently run a workshop that improves the skills of others.

4 Be authentic

Quite often, the need to run workshops stems from wanting to emulate other successful workshops. However, while it may seem easy to replicate an experience, authenticity is jeopardised. The best advice I can give is to be 100 per cent yourself. Do not be afraid of trying out a new idea, or even running the workshop in an unusual way. Follow your intuition and lead with passion.

“For me, what I gain is often the same as what others gain – a memorable experience” Sam Nash
