Carrick Wines from Bannockbur­n won Best Organic White Wine with its Carrick Bannockbur­n Riesling Central Otago 2017, and Best Organic Red Wine, with the Pinot Noir Central Otago 2015. We ask winemaker Francis Hutt a few choice questions.

WHAT IS AN ORGANIC WINE?

The benefits for the consumer of certified organic wines are fewer chemical additives and preservati­ves, and generally less processing. In a single vineyard situation the wines become a true representa­tion of their tūrangawae­wae, their sense of place.
