Bondi beach, balanced horizons and timeless moments are the hallmarks of photographer and writer Tim Denoon’s Instagram account. The North Bondi resident joined the social media site on the recommendation of a friend who thought it would suit his interest in storytelling through pictures.

With followers on his feed continuing to grow organically, Denoon believes the trick is not to be swayed by which type of post gets the most likes, but to keep it genuine, have joy and always strive for simplicity. “I do think is important is having a deep presence within each image you show to the world. That’s something I’ve learned studying Zen Buddhism: to put yourself in the moment but at the same time remove yourself from it. Somehow you have to point your camera as if you want to embrace the world, but you also need the equanimity of a monk to get an image that transcends the ordinary, everyday snapshots that billions of people are taking on their iPhones every day.”
