After Frank Ocean, there hasn’t been a bolting out of the closet from other hip hoppers. This brings us to openly gay LastO who insists his debut is “not a gay album” but rather “the story of a man who lost something and was lucky enough to regain it”. This is a not a softcore rap album; “motherfuckers” are liberally littered through the lyrical rhymes. Yet when LastO asks someone to “kiss me on the derriere” it takes on a whole new meaning, and introduces the fine art of rimming to hip hop. Hardcore gay rap? Eminem could be severely traumatised – as he should be.
