BOY GEORGE – THIS IS WHAT I DO

Yes, Georgie boy is back as if he never really went away. The voice sounds more hoarse and lived-in than in his heyday, but still just as recognisable. The lead track, King Of Everything, is sweet catchy-pop with a surprisingly rockier edge, but most of the album has George returning to his reggae-lite ways as on Bigger Than War. My God sees him examining his spiritual side (“I had to get it wrong before I got it right”), while It’s Easy has the former Culture Clubber turning to country music, and rather successfully. There are no dance tunes, just good adult pop that proves George is still a force to be reckoned with.
