FIVE TOP TIPS FOR THE VIRGIN VISITOR TO JAPAN

-

1. Rent a portable modem at the airport. Never lose a signal and easily plug them into recharge anywhere, including on the Shinkansen. 2. Rent a bicycle in Kyoto. It’s the best way to get across town to see the many sites and sights – and using that portable modem and you’ll never get lost. 3. Try takoyaki. This snack of doughy octopus balls can be found everywhere from parks to late-night stands. You’ll recognise the orange cartoon octopus. 4. Get a Japan rail pass. These unlimited passes can be used on most trains across the country, including the Shinkansen. They must be purchased while still out of the country, and validated on your first train ride in Japan. 5. Start your night with a snack. Hit any 7/11 for a cheap and powerful bottle of sake and while there pick up tasty rice triangles with mystery fillings, onigiri.
