BROOKLYN BOYS: The Photograph­y Of Danny Fitzgerald And Les Demi Dieux; Edited by Robert Loncar and James Kempster

In the early 1960s, a series of striking photograph­s appeared in male physique magazines and were attributed to Les Demi Dieux studio. They were the work of Danny Fitzgerald. His photograph­s displayed “the technical mastery and restrained sensuality of earlier male nude photograph­er George Platt Lynes, though less theatrical and with greater realism”. But until the release of this new book, he remained relatively unknown. Particular­ly striking is his collaborat­ion with “chiseled masculine beauty” Richard Bennett who became both his muse and also his life partner. The images are startling for the full frontal nudity regularly featured and also for the youth of some of his models.
