I AM WRITING TO PROVE

-

that not all Canadians are really nice; some of us are downright curmudgeonly. DNA #168 just arrived in my mailbox and I have a few complaints about the article Destination: Toronto 2014.

1) It is Niagara Falls not Niagra Falls. Is Cameron McCool terribly cute or from the States? Only Americans make that mistake.

2) If you want to see naked gay Torontonians, take the ferry to Hanlan’s Point.

3) The Some Toronto Gay History sidebar: I was there. The cops did not raid every gay bathhouse in Toronto on February 5, 1981, just the biggest ones. The one I was in, The Romans, had been in business for over 20 years. We did not stand outside in the cold while being humiliated by the local press (not that the Toronto Sun did not try). We were humiliated by the cops inside the baths while being processed and the subsequent protests were not always peaceful. Take a look at the movie Track Two on YouTube.

On a positive note, the 2014 DNA Calendar arrived in the mail. Thank you for putting Ruben and Reval on top of my birthday month, again. I will be at World Pride [in Toronto] in June, pointing out errors while indulging to excess and listening for Australian accents. Bobottawa

Thannks for your letter, Bobottawa. Yes, Cameron is very cute, Australian, and as bad at spelling as the rest of us! We look forward to bumping into you at Hanlan’s Point, right after we’ve looked up “curmudgeonly”.
