THE AELRIC SERIES
609AD: the Roman Empire in the west has fallen but the eastern provinces are still ruled by the Emperor from Constantinople. Although this Empire is called Byzantium, its inhabitants consider themselves Romans and take pride in their mixed classical and Christian heritage. But the Empire has fallen on difficult times: separatist movements in Egypt and Syria pose a challenge, while the Persian Empire (which rules vast territories to the east) is on the warpath. The provinces are falling one at a time and even the money is running out.
Into this world comes Aelric of England. He is young, beautiful, clever and ruthless. He is also utterly sexually uninhibited in his tastes and appetites and doesn’t believe there should be any boundaries to his affections. He likes boys just as much as girls and won’t change his ways. Aelric journeys to Rome, then to Constantinople where he rises almost at once to a wealth and power matched only by the Emperor. Only Aelric knows how to save the Empire, though he will need to kill or outwit his enemies if he is to succeed. To date, there are six books in the impressive Aelric series. The first is Conspiracies Of Rome and the most recent, Curse Of Babylon, was published in early 2014.
