NENEH CHERRY – BLANK PROJECT

It’s been decades since the Buffalo Stance gal made a solo album, but now that she’s finished having babies Neneh is ready to pick up where she left off. Helping her make the transition is fellow Swedish pop sensation, Robyn, who duets on the almost experimental track Out Of The Black. With much of the record inspired by the death of her mother and making a fresh start, there’s plenty of heavy emotion here, plus an emphasis on beats and minimalist sounds that might not be to everyone’s liking. If anything, this album proves Neneh isn’t going the easy route or ready to hit the button marked “ballads for mums” yet. Quirky and unnerving, this is a welcome return project.
