PRAIA DE ABRICO, BRAZIL

The only official nude beach near Rio de Janeiro is 25km away in a nature reserve beneath a panorama of rugged mountains. Praia de Abrico is at the far end of Grumari Beach and while not exclusively gay, it is primarily visited by men, especially during the week. The nudist section is separated from the swimsuit section by a couple of boulders. Beyond those boulders, nudity is not only encouraged, it’s mandatory. Considering the quality of the local Brazilian fauna, it’s more a gift than a rule. Photos here are also forbidden; mental images are another story.
