SYDNEY’S BEST DAY STRIPPING

-

DNA’s resident man-about-the-world, Marc Andrews reviews Sydney’s nudest!

While I have stripped off my speedos in many exotic locations around the world (usually the bushes or sandy tracks nearby, not so much the beaches themselves), I can’t help but think that Sydney is truly spoilt for choice when it comes to nuding up for a swim.

There’s Obelisk on the north shore which is a 30-40 minute drive/bus journey from the CBD and one of Sydney’s hidden beachside gems (not to mention all the fraternising that goes on in the hinterland nearby). It also boasts a picturesque strip of sand where disrobing is legally allowed and because it’s such a tiny area of space you’ll be chatting to your neighbours and making friends in no time.

Little Congwong Beach at La Perouse is favoured by men with tattoos, nose rings and often a little extra safety blubber around their middles. Be warned, it has had police crackdowns as it is on national parklands and is still an unofficial nude beach.

Best of all is Lady Jane Beach, right on the harbour and a brief walk up from the delightfully named Camp Cove. It’s been a legal nude beach for almost 40 years and while it attracts a portion of the dirty old man brigade, its slither of sand is perfect for a clothes-free dip in the sea. Wander the rocks on either side for more privacy and afterwards treat yourself to fish’n’chips at Doyle’s takeaway before getting the ferry back to Circular Quay (fully dressed, of course).
