KELIS – FOOD
With song titles like Jerk Ribs, Friday Fish Fry and Biscuits N’ Gravy there really couldn’t be any other title for Kelis’ sixth album than Food. Ditching her afro-disco excursions and more experimental musical moods, this finds her almost back to her roots… or root vegetables, as the case may be. Anyone hoping Kelis might bring the boys back to her yard with Milkshake II might be disappointed. This is an old skool record with one of the most underrated voices in pop back at the top of her game. Aiming to be the future dipped into the past, Food serves tasty bites of classic neo-soul and post-funk. Expect this to be on many Best Of 2014 lists at year’s end.
