Despite the Italian sounding name, Nutini is Scottish with his style of music in the smouldering rock/R&B lite mode. This is his third album and it has already brought him to his biggest global audience. Scream (Funk My Life Up) is a banging way to kick off the album before Let Me Down Easy spins back to ’60s style pop. Fashion features the always-welcome Janelle Monae rapping and has a similar retro vibe (even namechecking London’s swinging Carnaby Street). We’re not sure if the Diana in his song is Princess Di, but it’s such a slinky, sexy number we don’t really care. If Amy Winehouse had been reincarnated as a man with moves like Jagger and brushed her hair out of its beehive you’d arrive somewhere close to Paolo. An album this good is a reminder that male voices are allowed to make you swoon, too.
