MARY J BLIGE – THE LONDON SESSIONS

-

If Amy Winehouse could sing about Rehab, why can’t Mary J sing about going to Therapy two times a day? That’s the opening track to this album that effectively restarts Mary’s career after she fell into a slump of dull-songs-sungwell for her last few records. On lucky album #13 she has enlisted the help of chart-welcome Brit kids like Sam Smith, Emile Sandé and Disclosure and boy did MJB bring it all. Not Loving You is a power ballad to match No More Drama from her back catalogue, while Right Now has Disclosure’s post-modern dance prints all over it, which is a great thing. This is easily the most exciting and innovative record of her career yet.
