THE BOX by Ron Amato Focussing on themes of isolation, desire, conflict and empowerment, photographer Amato uses a series of boxes to create visual metaphors, echoing his development from adolescence to adulthood, through over 100 colour and black-andwhite images.

Amato is a professor of photography at the Fashion Institute Of Technology, New York. This monograph of sensual male nudes is 112 pages in a clever 10-by-10-inch format. Amato ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to help cover final production and printing costs.

“Most of my artwork explores issues of sexuality,” says the photographer. “The enigma of attraction has been an ongoing question. With The Box I’ve been able to explore these themes more deeply, helping me develop a better understanding of myself as a gay man and the larger gay universe.” The book is available worldwide from June 1.
