FISCHERSPOONER – SIR
At the turn of the millennium, trendsetters had high expectations of this NYC dance duo. Fischerspooner remixed Kylie hits and invented “electroclash” until someone pointed out it was merely indie disco. Bummer. Fifteen years later they’ve re-emerged and roped in REM’s Michael Stipe to produce a new album. (He was also Casey Spooner’s first boyfriend, fact fans.) It’s an attempt, and a rather successful one, cue the steamy app-bashing TopBrazil, for summing up today’s gay male experience. As Casey sagely notes, it’s “a loud, proud, erotically-charged response to the current political climate in the US”. It’s also edgy, sexy, danceable and, perhaps most importantly, catchy. This could be that great gay album we’ve all been waiting for. Yes, Sir, they can boogie.
