STYLE: EUAN DOIDGE, NAKED WITH SNAKES

-

As Jake, the bad-boy warden of Wentworth, he’s sexy in and out of uniform.

Award-winning actor Euan Doidge is touring nationally in Priscilla: The Musical as Felicia Jollygoodfellow. To distract Euan from his fear of snakes, Josh fired off some questions during the photoshoot!

DNA: You’re a country boy from outback South Australia who’s swapped your swag for sparkles and ended up staring in Priscilla: The Musical? How did that happen? Euan Doidge: I have no idea. Though, I’m sure there would be many people from country South Australia who would’ve seen this coming 10 years ago. I wasn’t your typical country boy. I always liked sparkles. Who doesn’t?! How old were you when you started performing?

I didn’t start until I was 10, which, for some people, is quite late. I started out as a gymnast but as performing became more of an interest to me, I said goodbye to the tight gym shorts and hello to the even tighter ballet tights. I knew this was what I wanted to do and I’ve never looked back.

This is the second role you’ve played in drag; first in Kinky Boots. What is it about these roles that excites you and keeps you in heels?

Who would’ve thought, right? I love the message that both Kinky Boots and Priscilla have for the world: love, friendship and acceptance, and that excites me more than the heels. Surprisingly! After playing Marius in Les Miserables, I think I’ve confused a few people. But I’m so lucky to be able to play all these roles. There are not that many great opportunities that come your way.

Your body is off the chain; how often are you hitting the gym?

I wouldn’t say off the chain, there’s always room for improvement, but I will take the compliment, thank you! I like to train 5 to 6 times a week. Before Priscilla I was hitting the weight training hard and was loving what my body could do. But for this show I’ve eased off on the heavier side of things and been working towards a slimmer, more toned version of myself.

Are the rest of your family as talented and also destined for stage and screen?

Um… all of my siblings! They will >>

>> unfollow me on social media for saying this, but those kids can sing, dance and are just as goofy, if not goofier, than I am. They are very talented in their respective fields. My brother is a personal trainer, my sister is studying fashion and my youngest sister is still at school. They are all professionally good looking!

Any plans to head off to Broadway or the West End?

So many people ask me this, which is very flattering, and I’ve always said that if the work takes me there, I would go. If an opportunity comes your way, take it and run!

What’s you dream musical theatre role?

If I had to choose, and could be non-gender specific, then I’d have to say Elphaba from Wicked. She wears a long wig, a black gown and can fly – I’m sold! In all honesty, I don’t really have a dream role. I love all theatre and, as I said, if an opportunity comes up that I’m suitable for, then I’ll give it my best shot.

A revealling photoshoot, three pythons… can we talk about your anxiety level?

We can’t talk about it! I’m blocking it out. I have three major fears: snakes, snakes and snakes. But why not do a shoot with them, right?! No, I’m actually having the best time. Nothing like facing your fears with three pythons all over your body.
