The man who defaced Sydney’s George Michael mural is ordered to pay $AU 14,000 in damages by a court. Ben Gittany, 24, painted over the famous Erskinville artwork in black paint, he says, to stick up for “Christian values”. Gittany was videoed committing the crime as local onlookers pleaded with him to stop. The mural has since been restored.
