The Mos­quito Coast (1986) Har­ri­son Ford plays an in­ven­tor who, dis­il­lu­sioned with Amer­i­can con­sumerism, takes his wife and kids from their New Eng­land farm to Cen­tral Amer­ica. River plays the oldest son, Char­lie. The hoped-for utopia of their new life in a rain­for­est vil­lage soon turns to a night­mare.

Stand By Me (1986)

This mov­ing and witty rites-of-pas­sage drama sees four very dif­fer­ent 12-yearold boys go in search of a miss­ing lo­cal lad. River plays Chris Cham­bers, from a fam­ily of crooks and al­co­holics. As they zero in on the body, they learn a lot about them­selves.

My Own Pri­vate Idaho (1991) Mike (Phoenix) and Scott (Keanu Reeves) are gay street hus­tlers ek­ing out an ex­is­tence. Scott is street­wise and cal­cu­lat­ing. Mike, who is in love with Scott, is trau­ma­tised by fam­ily ex­pe­ri­ences and suf­fers nar­colepsy. They travel to Idaho, then Rome, in search of Mike’s mother.

Sneak­ers (1992)

In this techno-ca­per, River plays a com­puter hacker who’s a mem­ber of an elite group test­ing se­cu­rity sys­tems. They help their boss (Robert Red­ford) when he’s black­mailed by govern­ment agents, but there’s more at stake than any­one re­alises.
