STAR F*CKER

He’s worked the room at the Oscars and had “encounters” with closetted Hollywood men, but JR Bronson won’t kiss and tell.

- Interview and photography by James Franklin

DNA: Let’s start with your background. Where are you from and what brought you to porn?

JR Bronson: Originally, I’m from upstate New York but lived quite a while in Manhattan before making the move to Los Angeles. I trekked out to SoCal [Southern California] to get into porn, but I had to put a roof over my head as soon as I landed so I got myself a place to stay and a job with the prestigious celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. There, I worked Oscar parties and networked while looking to get my foot in the porn door.

Oscar parties, wow. What did you do at the parties and who is the most famous person you met?

While working for Wolfgang I was one of the event managers for many of the events including the Oscars. The most famous person would be a toss-up between Oprah and Meryl Streep. Compared to my experiences with other celebrities, I found them both to be completely gracious and kind. It says a lot about a person when they are kind to “the help”.

How did your porn career finally take off? I found a manager, and then a photographer – in fact, it was you, James Franklin – who finally got me some amazing shots that could use to shop myself around to the studios. Those shots enabled me to connect with Hot House and the rest is history. What have been some of the perks of being a porn star?

I’ve met some amazing people and travelled around the world. Let’s face it, you work a few days a month, make good money, and the rest of the time you get to do what you want vs being tied down to a desk job 40-plus hours a week. The job isn’t for everyone because it can be physically and mentally draining, but it’s also an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Is there anyone in the industry who inspires you, past or present?

Honestly, Jenna Jameson. She’s built a media empire from being a porn star. There has been some stirrings within porn industry around the #metoo movement. Have you had any experiences along those lines?

Yes. There have been incidents with various entitled people in the porn industry. I think most of us have had these issues but very few of us talk about it because, to be honest, it’s just part of the job when you’re a sex worker.

What do you think of the new fan-based subscription platforms where porn performers – or any other hot guys – can film and make extra money?

I think it’s brilliant! Since the beginning, the studios, straight and gay, have held the

purse strings and dictated what the performers earned. In the past, if you were a hung top, you could earn thousands while a bottom might make just $500 for the same scene. Now, some guys are raking in upwards of $10,000 a month. Meanwhile, the studios are paying less and less. As with most artforms, it has always felt like the artist was left earning the least. Now this is one platform where the artists are taking control of their own image and income.

Where do you see porn going in the next decade?

We will always have porn because men will always be horny. God knows, I am. I think it will evolve and get smarter. The studios will figure out what the next level is so they can turn a profit while still paying talent a decent wage. The future could be in better management and organization. It could be finding a way to give the audience what they want without losing income from piracy. Porn will go on in one form or another.

As a gay American, how do you feel about the political climate while Trump is in office?

As a gay man, it’s always been a struggle being viewed as equal in American society, and we were making great headway, but with this new presidency our rights are slowly being whittled away. I live in California, so I’m safe, but I feel for other LGBTIQ people in states that aren’t so friendly to anyone who isn’t straight and white. Our country, our planet for that matter, is in trouble with matters concerning religion. I believe in God but there are too many who are corrupting religion, using God to push their agendas, beliefs and their comfort levels rather than using God for good. It will take time and a lot of work to bring our country and our planet back to a balanced state where we benefit instead of abuse our fellow man.

Do you miss anything about your life before porn?

Honestly, my life isn’t much different. I still have my family and friends. There are always rumours that circulate, but my privacy is still intact.

Any odd situations that have come up because you make porn?

I had a stalker a few years ago that caused some

trouble, but once law enforcement got involved it settled down and my life resumed as normal. Outside of porn, what are you doing?

I’m still connected to the porn industry but recently I’ve gone back to event planning. I’ve been having a blast producing small events for private people and companies. It’s not the Oscars, but your head would spin to see some of the clients I’m currently working with. The Oscars are glamorous, but when you produce an event for 500-plus people it becomes more mechanical and less intimate. These clients give me a lot more freedom because the events are smaller and the budgets are bigger, which allows me to do more whimsical and personal events. Seeing that you work in Hollywood circles, have you had any intimate encounters with famous men?

I don’t kiss – or fuck – and tell. What I will say, however, is that I have encountered a lot of men in Hollywood circles who are still afraid to come out for fear of being ostracized. As progressive as California is, Hollywood still has a closet-full of people afraid to be themselves. At the sticky end of the interview, can we ask for your vital statistics please?

Yes. I’m 36 years old. I’m 5’7” [170cm], weight 170pounds [70kg], and my dick is six-and-half inches and cut.

It will take time to bring our country and our planet back to a balanced state where we benefit instead of abuse our fellow man.”
