THE TROUBLE WITH GRINDR

-

Our News Review in DNA #231 asked, is the app doing enough to protect users’ privacy. Maybe what they should be doing is running ad campaigns, globally, that take away the stigma from HIV and letting everyone know that with treatment it cannot be passed to someone else.

When HIV came on the scene it was on every news network, and now that people can live normal, healthy lives they are not spreading the word. In my country, there are a lot of people who threaten to kill other people with HIV status on Grindr. I am one of them and I am sick and tired of it.

Maybe they should focus on making sure that everyone is well educated and advertise the benefits of being undetectable, focusing on how marriages, families and relationships can continue with someone who is HIV-positive. When they do that it will be considered less of a security threat.

We get more coverage on Kim Kardashian and Kanye West and we do on HIV information and that’s a shame. They should also be working on laws that protect people who are HIV-positive.
