THEO BREAUX
Ú THEOBREAUX
All actors love the idea of playing the villain – I certainly do – and Aaron is one of the most evil of Shakespeare’s villains.
What would actor Theo Breaux’s dream role be? Aaron The Moor, a murderous mastermind in Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. “I think all actors love the idea of playing the villain – I certainly do – and Aaron is one of the most evil of Shakespeare’s villains. This role is also significant because it explores interracial relationships and race in general during these times. Black actors back then were not allowed to perform on stage. White actors in black-face played the role, so it means a lot as a black actor to be able to step into this role.
“I was fortunate enough to play Aaron in a Dallas production many years ago, alongside Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) and Brian J Smith (Sense 8). We were all kids then… now that I’m a bit older and closer to the character in age, I think I’d be able to bring a lot more to it and discover new ways to bring him to life.”
Theo’s talents also extend into the realms of writing and producing, having created and starred in his own award-winning comedy pilot Then What Happened? (You can catch it on queer-owned streaming platform, Revry). He’s also set to star in an adaptation of Jake Biondi’s popular book series, Boystown.
“It follows the stories of multiple gay characters living in Chicago’s famed Boystown neighbourhood… think, if Dynasty, Melrose Place and Queer As Folk had a baby. Production will start in a few months. It’s got a great cast… a great script,” Theo enthuses.
Theo keeps in shape through strength training six days a week, along with three or four cardio sessions. As somebody who struggled with his weight throughout adolescence, his advice to those looking to up their own fitness is simply: “Just start! Start doing something. If you hate the gym go for a hike or a swim. Get your body moving and, eventually, when the time comes and you’re ready, continue to build your body at the gym.”
