While revisiting their teen years for recently released memoir, High School, identical twins Tegan and Sara discovered tapes containing their very first compositions, written between the ages of 15 and 17. With Hey, I’m Just Like You they return to the material contained on those 1990s cassettes and reinvent them. “With only minor tweaks to lyrics and structure, we tried to remain true to the original essence of each song,” Sara explains. In some cases, Sara sings songs Tegan wrote while on others Tegan gives voice to Sara’s melodies and lyrics. “This is the record we never could have made as teenagers, full of songs we never could have written as adults,” the duo declares about their timely back-to-the-future release.
